Shot over two summers on the Rosebud and Pine ridge reservations, Wakanyeja (meaning “little sacred ones” in Lakota) attempts to shun the clichés of poverty and addiction so often depicted when documenting reservation life, and instead focus on the vibrancy and indomitable spirt of Native American youth.
